156) run it. Tor only protects your applications that are properly configured
157) to send their Internet traffic through Tor. To avoid problems with

159) projects/torbrowser>">Tor Browser Bundle</a>. It is pre-configured to
160) protect your privacy and anonymity on the web as long as you're browsing
161) with the Tor Browser itself. Almost any other web browser configuration
162) is likely to be unsafe to use with Tor.</p>

166) Torrent file-sharing applications have been observed to ignore proxy 
167) settings and make direct connections even when they are told to use Tor. 
168) Even if your torrent application connects only through Tor, you will 
169) often send out your real IP address in the tracker GET request, 
170) because that's how torrents work. Not only do you <a

172) deanonymize your torrent traffic and your other simultaneous Tor web 
173) traffic</a> this way, you also slow down the entire Tor network for everyone else.

176) <li><b>Don't enable or install browser plugins</b>

177) <p>The Tor Browser will block browser plugins such as Flash, RealPlayer,
178) Quicktime, and others: they can be manipulated into revealing your IP
179) address.  Similarly, we do not recommend installing additional addons or
180) plugins into the Tor Browser, as these may bypass Tor or otherwise harm
181) your anonymity and privacy. The lack of plugins means that Youtube videos
182) are blocked by default, but Youtube does provide an experimental opt-in
183) feature <a href="https://www.youtube.com/html5">(enable it here)</a>
184) that works for some videos.</p>

190) and within the Tor network</a>, but the encryption of your traffic to
191) the final destination website depends upon on that website. To help
192) ensure private encryption to websites, the Tor Browser Bundle includes
193) <a href="https://www.eff.org/https-everywhere">HTTPS Everywhere</a>
194) to force the use of HTTPS encryption with major websites that
195) support it. However, you should still watch the browser URL bar to
196) ensure that websites you provide sensitive information to display a <a

204) <p>The Tor Browser will warn you before automatically opening
205) documents that are handled by external applications. <b>DO NOT
206) IGNORE THIS WARNING</b>.  You should be very careful when downloading
207) documents via Tor (especially DOC and PDF files) as these documents
208) can contain Internet resources that will be downloaded outside of
209) Tor by the application that opens them. This will reveal your non-Tor
210) IP address. If you must work with DOC and/or PDF files, we strongly
211) recommend either using a disconnected computer, downloading the free <a
212) href="https://www.virtualbox.org/">VirtualBox</a> and using it with a <a
213) href="http://virtualboxes.org/">virtual machine image</a> with networking

221) <p>Tor tries to prevent attackers from learning what destination websites
222) you connect to. However, by default, it does not prevent somebody
223) watching your Internet traffic from learning that you're using Tor. If
224) this matters to you, you can reduce this risk by configuring Tor to use a
225) <a href="<page docs/bridges>">Tor bridge relay</a> rather than connecting
226) directly to the public Tor network.  Ultimately the best protection is
227) a social approach: the more Tor users there are near you and the more
228) <a href="<page about/torusers>">diverse</a> their interests, the less
229) dangerous it will be that you are one of them. Convince other people to
