<h2>Tor: Packages and source</h2>

Tor is distributed as <a href="http://www.fsf.org/">Free Software</a>
under the <a href="cvs/tor/LICENSE">3-clause BSD license</a>.

You can get the latest release from the <a href="dist/">download
directory</a>. The latest stable release is 0.0.9.9, and the
latest testing release is 0.1.0.7-rc. Tor should run on Linux,
BSD, OS X, Win32, Solaris, and more.

You will <a href="cvs/tor/doc/tor-doc.html#installing">need
libevent</a>. If you are brave enough to try building from source on
Windows, you'll need libevent 1.0c or later.

Debian packages have been uploaded to the set of official unstable
Debian packages. If you are running stable (woody) or testing (sarge), you
must first add these lines to <code>/etc/apt/sources.list</code>:

To install the packages, issue the following commands:

Packages for the development version of Tor are available as well. To install these,

2005-05-17: Tor 0.1.0.7-rc <a

an install problem with OS X on Tiger, and finds and links and runs
libevent much better on weird platforms</a>.

2005-05-14: Tor 0.1.0.6-rc <a
href="http://archives.seul.org/or/talk/May-2005/msg00044.html">fixes
the last known major bugs: we don't use threading on netbsd now, and the
new libevent detects and disables the broken kqueue that ships with OS
X 10.4.0</a>.

2005-04-27: Tor 0.1.0.5-rc <a
href="http://archives.seul.org/or/talk/Apr-2005/msg00201.html">has a
few stability fixes (in particular, libevent 1.0d has a serious crash bug,
so now we incorporate libevent 1.0e), add https authenticator support,
and some performance improvements</a>.

2005-04-23: Tor 0.1.0.4-rc <a

some more stability problems, including a bug that's been taking down
a lot of servers suddenly</a>.

2005-04-08: Tor 0.1.0.3-rc <a

some performance improvements, makes Tor tolerate more clock skew,
and fixes a bunch more bugs</a>.

reachability detection work better, and fixes some other problems</a>.

2005-03-28: Tor 0.1.0.1-rc <a

automatic reachability testing for servers (the first step to getting rid
of the 'verified servers' notion), uses pthreads if available to reduce
server memory footprint, uses libevent so we can use better polling

supports https proxies for clients, and fleshes out our controller
interface. It also fixes a bunch of minor but annoying bugs</a>.

for a rare bug (reported by Alex de Joode) that makes servers stop
processing new circuits</a>.

server race crash bug, and also fixes a bug where we would refuse to
extend to an unknown server</a>.

2005-03-24:

more server stability problems</a>.

2005-02-22:
Tor 0.0.9.5 fixes <a

remotely triggerable crash bug, and has several other stability
improvements</a>.

2004-08-25:
