Tor: Packages and source

You can get the latest release from the download directory. It should run on Linux, BSD, OS X, Win32, Solaris, and more.

• Latest stable: 0.0.8.1 (sig)
• Win32 executable (experimental, contributed): 0.0.9pre5 (sig) Be sure to read the instructions -- you'll need OpenSSL, and don't forget privoxy)

Windows packages:

• Nick's contributed installer for pre6-cvs.
• Outside link: Aphex's contributed Tor zip file for Win32 includes Tor, Openssl, Privoxy, SocksCap.
• Outside link: Hideki Saito's contributed tor setup exe might work for you, especially if you speak Japanese.

Red Hat packages are not available yet. We have a spec file but we're not sure if it's any good. Please help.

Debian packages have been uploaded to unstable, so you can just apt-get install tor if you are running sid.
For stable (woody) or testing add these lines to your /etc/apt/sources.list file:

deb http://mirror.noreply.org/pub/tor stable main
deb-src http://mirror.noreply.org/pub/tor stable main

and then run apt-get update; apt-get install tor. Packages for architectures other than i386 can be added on demand.

Other packages are available for Gentoo Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD, and OpenBSD. If somebody sends me details for these I'll put them here.

2004-11-09

Tor 0.0.9pre5 adds a saner log config format, hibernation, and a remote control interface.

2004-10-17

Tor 0.0.9pre4 fixes a bug with default exit policies for servers, adds config options to specify that a family of nodes are in the same trust domain, and allows better exit integration with Squid.

2004-10-14

Tor 0.0.9pre3 fixes more bugs, makes configuring dirservers easier, and introduces an HttpProxy config option.

2004-10-03

Tor 0.0.9pre2 makes pre1 work again on amd64 and other 64-bit systems.

2004-10-01

Tor 0.0.9pre1 fixes more bugs in 0.0.8, and adds compression for directories, and client-side directory caching.

Stable releases

2004-10-14

Tor 0.0.8.1 fixes a remotely triggerable crash bug, and has several other stability improvements.

2004-08-25

Tor 0.0.8 adds directory caching, on-demand connecting from ORs to ORs, bandwidth tracking, picks routers by bandwidth, handles firewalls better, handles dynamic IPs for servers, makes use of unverified servers in some path positions, and fixes many bugs.
